Women on the political scene of Bosnia and Herzegovina are almost invisible. There were significantly fewer women than men on the lists of candidates for the general election this year. The published data showed that only 16 percent of all first names on lists were women. For this reason, women’s participation in politics must be in line with the legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was announced today by representatives of civil society organizations in BiH gathered around the new initiative “Legal Assistance to Women Candidates in the Elections of 2018”. Among other things, for the first time in BiH, free legal support for women was offered to candidates at all levels of government. Director of the INFOHOUSE Foundation, Dzenana Aladjuz, said that it was high time that such assistance be offered to women in BiH. “The Law on Gender Equality in BiH does not appear to be valid when the mandates are assigned after the elections. Countless times we tried to get the answer to the question why the law ceases to be valid after the election but never received an answer. That is why we are here and we will stand by every woman who wants to report corruption.
